Privacy and your data at Workplacea: what we store and why

A resume is one of the most personal documents you'll ever type into a website, so privacy and your data deserve a page written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. This is that page: what Workplacea stores, where it lives, what the AI features actually see, what we will never do with your information, and how deletion works when you want out.

The one-paragraph version

In guest mode, your resumes live in your browser and we store nothing. When you sign in, your resumes and any job descriptions you've attached sync to the cloud under your account so they follow you across devices. Files you import are parsed once and not stored. AI features send the specific text being worked on to a model provider for that request and nothing more. We don't sell your data, we don't feed it to recruiter databases, and we don't train models on your content without consent. Deleting a resume removes it; deleting your account removes everything. The rest of this page is detail, not exceptions.

What we store, mode by mode

• Guest mode. Everything saves to your browser's local storage on your device. Your resume content never reaches our servers except transiently when you invoke a server-backed feature (import or an AI request). We can't see, list, or recover guest resumes — which is also the caveat: clearing browser data deletes them, so export a PDF backup of anything important.
• Signed in. We store your account email, your resumes and tailored variants, and job descriptions you've analyzed for tailoring. That's the working set the product needs to sync your dashboard across devices — the mechanics are covered in account and sync.
• Imported files. When you upload a PDF or Word file, it's parsed once in a single request and the file is not stored — the note on the upload dialog says exactly this. What persists is only the structured resume you approve on the review screen. Select "Discard" and nothing persists at all.
• The free checker. Nothing, at all. The checker at /checker runs entirely in your browser — your pasted resume never leaves the page, no account is involved, and nothing is emailed to you. There's no lead-capture form because there's no lead being captured.

What happens when AI processes your resume

The AI features — Rewrite, summary generation, job description parsing, tailoring, and import extraction — run on a server that calls a third-party model provider. Being precise about what that means:

• What's sent: the text relevant to the specific request. Rewriting a bullet sends that bullet and its role context; tailoring sends the resume and the pasted posting; import sends the extracted file text. Requests are for processing only, not for building any profile of you.
• What comes back: suggestions, which are then checked by our own deterministic guardrails — the layer that blocks invented numbers and entities and flags anything unverifiable. Suggestions touch your stored resume only when you explicitly accept them.
• What's not sent: anything, if you don't use AI features. Editing, scoring, templates, and PDF export all run without a single AI call — the score in particular is pure local computation, as the rubric page explains.

What we never do

Commitments, stated flatly so they're easy to hold us to:

1. We never sell your resume data. Not to data brokers, not to "partners", not in anonymized aggregate wearing a trench coat.
2. We never feed recruiter databases. Some resume sites double as candidate-sourcing businesses, where the resume you typed becomes inventory. Workplacea has no recruiter side. Your resume goes where you send it and nowhere else.
3. We never train models on your content without consent. Your bullets are not silently improving anyone's model.
4. We never spam you from your own resume. The contact details on your resume are content to us, not a mailing list.

Healthy skepticism note: any tool can write this list. The structural evidence in our case is the business model — the product is funded by plans, not by your data, and the checker's no-account, in-browser design shows the pattern of collecting nothing we don't need.

Your controls: export everything, delete everything

• Export. Watermark-free PDF export is free and unlimited, so a complete copy of any resume is always one Download click away. No plan tier, deletion process, or dispute can hold your document hostage.
• Delete a resume. The dashboard card menu's "Delete" removes that resume — from the cloud if you're signed in, from your browser in guest mode.
• Delete your account. Email contact@workplacea.com from your account address and we'll remove the account and everything under it: resumes, variants, and analyzed job descriptions.
• Guest data. It's in your browser, so it's under your control already — clear the site's data in your browser settings and it's gone without asking anyone.

Deletion is real removal from our live systems, not a soft-hide or an "archive". Once a deleted resume is gone, we cannot recover it for you — which is the correct failure mode for a privacy promise, but does mean you should export before deleting anything you might want later.

Questions worth asking any resume tool (including us)

Take this checklist to every tool that asks for your work history:

1. Can I use it without an account, and what does the tool collect if I do?
2. Is my uploaded file stored, or parsed and discarded?
3. Does the company also operate a recruiter or candidate-database business?
4. Is my content used for model training, and is that opt-in or buried?
5. Can I export everything for free, and does deletion actually delete?
6. Where does the money come from, if not from my data?

Any tool that answers these plainly is treating you as a customer. Evasion is an answer too. Frequently asked questions

Can Workplacea employees read my resume?

Stored account data lives in our database, and like any service we have administrative access for operating the system — but resume content is looked at only to debug a problem you've reported, never browsed, mined, or shared. Guest-mode resumes we couldn't read even if asked; they're not on our servers.

Is the free checker really private?

Yes, verifiably: the page states your resume never leaves it, and the check runs entirely in your browser. You can confirm with your browser's developer tools that scoring triggers no network request carrying your text.

What does the AI provider keep after processing my request?

Requests are sent for processing the specific feature you invoked. We don't grant training rights over your content, and we send only the text the feature needs. If this trade-off bothers you, skip the AI buttons entirely — the core product works fully without them.

How fast does deletion take effect?

Deleting a resume takes effect immediately in the product. Account deletion requests via email are processed promptly after we verify the request came from the account owner — verification exists so nobody else can delete your data.
